OUR GOAL- “Develop a mother cow that will raise a calf every year
and do it in an environment with minimum inputs while selecting for fertility, calving ease and adaptability.”
We focus on the factory and provide an environment that leaves little unanswered. Forgiveness or second chance is not a part of our program. If cows can survive at LAZY ACRES, we know they will perform for you. Exclusively fall calving grazing stock piled fescue and no creep feed, we have few 700 pound weaning weights. We believe in the cattle we raise and are working hard to improve their ability to create value either in the box or in the pasture.
Conditioning starts early. Fescue grass is our #1 feed source. Calves are born in
September-November and run with cows until early April. Weaning process begins
with weaners inserted for two weeks and then calves are placed in grazing
paddocks. FEMALES continue to graze with limited supplement (depending on the
moisture) until they are synchronized and artificially inseminated in late November. Dr.Pete Fulper diagnoses pregnancy and open females are removed from the herd.
Mid-summer, BULLS are developed on a GrowSafe system in Wardensville, WV. A complete set of measurements are taken and every effort is made to ensure all bulls are sound and functional. All information is made available and every bull purchased has passed a Breeding Soundness Exam including semen evaluation.
Every year we have a Customer Appreciation Day and Open House on the last Saturday in October to allow LAZY ACRES to say "Thanks" to our friends, neighbors, and customers for their support. Bulls will be on display and available for delivery after Thanksgiving. In addition to the Open House, "Focus Now, Value Later" Sale is the last Saturday in April. Bulls and bred females will be offered beginning at 1 pm.
